The A-Link Directory will include organizations that provide services and information that meet the legal needs of Albertans.

The following criteria have been considered for inclusion into the A-Link Directory:

o  Organizations in the online directory will represent the broad field of public legal education (PLE) in Alberta. Those federal agencies operating in Alberta, and servicing Albertans will also be included.

o  The organizations will focus on educating the public or providing a service with respect to the law. This educating and learning can be done through a variety of formats, and can be geared towards a range of audiences and levels.

o  The range of topics covered by organizations will deal with a broad choice of legal subject matters (including legal aid, legal history, administration of justice, dispute resolution etc.)

o  Service providers will focus on justice and law-related service that provide assistance to the public in understanding the law and the legal processes.

o  Organizations will be required to provide at least one type of contact information (i.e. phone, e-mail etc), recognizing the concern of some non-profits that they may not have sufficient resources to deal with an increased work load. Organizations are not required to have a website to be included in the directory.

o The following considerations need to be made before adding an organization in the A-Link directory:

      1.  Determine whether the organization offers knowledge development and understanding about some aspect of the law, legal services and the justice system.
      2.  Determine if an organization provides justice-related services to assist Albertans.
      3.  Determine if the organization is geared towards a public audience/clientele.
      4.  Consider the profile of the organization and the programs/materials offered.
