Calgary Legal Guidance Calgary Legal Guidance provides free legal advice for individuals with low income. If you need legal information and advice on:
*Family issues such as; separation/divorce, custody and access, child support, etc;
*Criminal issues such as theft, mischief, fraud, non domestic assault, solicitation etc;
*Civil issues such as small claims, debt, landlord/tenant, employment etc;
*Orders of Protection such as; Restraining Order, Emergency Protection Orders etc;
*Social Benefit issues such as; supports for independents, assured income for the severely handicapped, employment insurance, Canada Pension Plan etc;
Also an evening course on Do Your Own Divorce


Central Alberta Community Legal Clinic   The Central Alberta Community Legal Clinic (CACLC) provides legal advice and information to people who cannot afford a lawyer and do not qualify for legal aid. Volunteer Lawyers provide information and summary legal advice in the Clinic Program about a variety of legal matters including family and civil law, by appointment only.

Children’s Legal & Educational Resource Centre (CLERC) The Children’s Legal & Educational Resource Centre (CLERC) is a non-profit organization based in Calgary. CLERC provides legal advice, legal education, services and referrals to children and youth identified as needing legal information or representation. Young people who do not live with their parents, including those who have no parents, need legal help to get financial support from agencies and many young people face discrimination and need help dealing with different legal assistance situations.

Commissioner for Oaths (Alberta) In Alberta, the Official Documents and Appointments office is responsible for the appointments of Commissioners for Oaths, Notaries Public and other administrative functions including authenticating signatures on documents destined for other jurisdictions worldwide.

Dial-A-Law Dial-A-Law (Calgary Legal Guidance) provides the general public with basic information about the law and the legal system. There are over 170-recorded topics of the law for people to access 24 hours a day.

Family Law Office The Family Law Office can help clients with problems and issues relating to: Protection Defence, Separation and Divorce, Parenting Plans, Guardianship, Child support, Spousal/partner support, Division of Property, Representation of Children, Hague Convention, Appeals, Restraining Orders, Emergency Protection Orders. The Family Law Office is a program of Legal Aid Alberta with offices in Edmonton and Calgary. 

Grande Prairie Legal Guidance Grande Prairie Legal Guidance (GPLG) is a non-profit joint initiative between Pro Bono Law Alberta (PBLA), The Community Village and Grande Prairie lawyers. Volunteer lawyers from the Grande Prairie community donate their professional time to meet with clients and provide legal guidance and information.

Lawyer Referral Service (Alberta) The Lawyer Referral Service is a program operated by the Law Society to assist people in finding a lawyer who will provide them with the legal services they require. It is an information service and is not connected with Legal Aid - nor does it provide any form of financially subsidized legal service.

Legal Aid Alberta The mission of the Legal Aid Alberta is to facilitate equality of access to the justice system through the provision of legal services in serious legal matters to those who would not otherwise be able to finance them solely from their own resources.

Pro Bono Law Alberta (PBLA) A nonprofit organization (formed March 2007) that promotes access to justice in Alberta by creating and promoting opportunities for lawyers to provide pro bono (free) legal services to persons of limited means.

Student Legal Assistance, University of Calgary Student Legal Assistance Society is a volunteer non-profit organization of law students at the University of Calgary who provide year-round free legal assistance and representation to residents of the Calgary area who cannot afford legal assistance.

Student Legal Services of Edmonton Student Legal Services (SLS) is a non-profit organization of over 200 volunteer law students from the University of Alberta providing free legal information and assistance to the poverty community in the Edmonton area. SLS is composed of four projects: Civil & Family Law, Criminal Law, Pro Bono Students of Canada and Legal Education and Reform.

Volunteer Lawyers Service The Volunteer Lawyers Service (VLS) program is now operated out of the Pro Bono Law Alberta office. VLS is a pro bono program, initiated by the United Way of Calgary and Area, the Canadian Bar Association Alberta, the Law Society of Alberta, and the Association of General Counsel of Alberta. The VLS assists eligible non-partisan charitable organizations in obtaining pro bono legal services that would otherwise be unavailable to them due to a lack of financial resources.

Youth Criminal Defence Office (YCDO) Since 1993, a different method has been used to deliver legal services to young persons who are charged with criminal offences in Edmonton and Calgary. Except where there is a conflict of interest, the Legal Aid Society of Alberta refers its clients in those cities to the Youth Criminal Defence Office (YCDO). The YCDO operates under the supervision of a Senior Counsel who is hired by and reports to the Board of Directors of the Legal Aid Society. The YCDO also employs a number of lawyers in Calgary and Edmonton. Social workers, youth workers and administrative staff support the lawyers.
