Civil Mediation Program
The Civil Mediation Program – Court of Queen’s Bench of Alberta offers parties (people involved in a lawsuit) the opportunity to use private mediation to resolve disputes. The program is now operating in the Judicial Districts of Edmonton and Lethbridge/MacLeod. The program applies to parties involved in civil, non-family lawsuits at the Court of Queen’s Bench level. If you cannot afford to pay you can apply for mediation fee coverage.

Booklet developed by Alberta Provincial Court with information on civil law and suing process. It includes information on alternatives and selecting a jurisdiction before suing, costs and time limits, forms and documents, mediation, witnesses, courtroom etiquette, court judgments, etc. It also provides a glossary of terms and examples of forms, as well as information on other resources, such as lawyer referral services, dial-a-law, and civil offices (PDF - 60 pages).
Family Justice Services
Family Justice Services are a group of progams and services offered by Alberta Justice in collaboration with the courts of Alberta. Family Justice Services works directly with individuals and also with the judges of the Alberta Provincial Court and Court of Queen's Bench to help people get appropriate solutions for their family law issues. The site provides information on a variety of issues such as the Family Law Act, family law kits and court information, child support assistance, courses and seminars for parents, family violence prevention, etc.
How the courts are organized
Site developed by Canada Justice explaining the levels and types of courts in Canada: provincial/territorial courts (which handle the great majority of cases that come into the system), provincial/territorial superior courts (which deal with more serious crimes and also take appeals from provincial/territorial court judgments, the Federal Court, the provincial/territorial courts of appeal and the Federal Court of Appeal, the Supreme Court of Canada (at the highest level).
