SEARCH is a quick way to find what you want.

To perform a Basic Search, simply choose a keyword from the pull-down menu and click on the GO button. A keyword search will yield a “hit list” of records matching your search criteria. You can also simply type in a word or phrase you would like to search and then click on the GO button.

For best results, consider carefully the word or phrase that you use to search. Make sure your word or phrase is spelled correctly.
*NOTE - by default, the search will provide all instances of the word or phrase by itself or embedded in a larger word. For example, using “viole” as a term will find all instances of violent, violence, and violet. Try using the phrase “family violence”  to further narrow your results to those items having the complete phrase.

This basic search is accessible right from the homepage, and from every page within ACJNet

If your search produces too much information, refine the search by adding additional search terms in the jurisdictions and language fields. For all the resources of a selected subject or keyword, select ALL for Jurisdiction. (When you use the ALL category, you may get duplicate titles in your results.) For those resources that are applicable across Canada, select Canada for Jurisdiction.

If your search produces too much information, perform an Advanced Search and you can narrow your search further by limiting it with the information like language, jurisdiction, URL* or even by record type (i.e. full text, interactive, or linked sites.) Or you can choose to click on all fields.Choosing all fields will cover all the bases when conducting your search.

You can still choose a keyword from the pull-down menu, or combine two keywords or instead choose a word or phrase.

*If you are searching for a URL do not enter the http://, just enter the URL or any portion that you know. When you click on a link, and get a 404 or an error message, try shortening the URL. For example, if you are looking for the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms at:
http://canada.justice.gc.ca/Loireg/charte/const_en.html and get an error message, try shortening the URL to: http://canada.justice.gc.ca/Loireg or even shorter to: http://canada.justice.gc.ca/

If no results are found, the message “no records were found to match your search criteria” will be displayed and you will be invited to search again.
