LawNow provides credible legal information, interpretation and comment to help Canadians make critical decisions in their lives, and make meaningful and effective contributions to the democratic life of community and country. LawNow Online includes an online magazine, email updating service, searchable archive of articles, and access to back issues.
Legal Resource Centre
The program uses a variety of knowledge development and delivery methods for providing law-related information, justice education, community development, community consultations and networking services. The program operates several websites.
Alberta Civil Liberties Research Centre - Publications
Publishes reports (download in .pdf format) on various civil liberties and human rights topics. Also has a lending library of videos. One of the Research Centre's current projects is the Human Rights Education Project, which educates secondary students about human rights law.
Alberta Human Rights Commission - Interpretive Bulletins
The Commission publishes interpretive bulletins, information sheets and booklets related to human rights law. Interpretive bulletins offer a comprehensive discussion of important human rights topics. They cite case law, provide descriptions of legal principles drawn from the case law, and offer practical information. The information sheets cover a range of important human rights issues, providing a brief overview of the topic and, in some instances, citing case law.
Alberta Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA)
The Alberta Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Alberta SPCA) is a provincially-incorporated nonprofit organization dedicated to the welfare of animals. They encourage the humane treatment of animals through enforcement of animal protection legislation and through education programs throughout Alberta.

Edmonton John Howard Society - Public Legal Education
Edmonton John Howard Society works to promote a better understanding of the Criminal Justice System and the consequences of breaking the law. This is accomplished through educational presentations provided to youth in the school system and the community.
Family Law - Don't Get Lost in the Shuffle Handbook
This publication is designed to answer questions that young people have about separation and/or divorce. It is intended to assist adults including parents, service providers and professionals who work with young people to help them understand the questions and issues of young people in the family law context. It is not intended to answer every question but attempts to focus on the most common questions asked by young people, with a few additional questions and comments relevant for adults. Family Law Information Centre - Booklets
These informational booklets are from the Family Law Centre and provide general instructions about how to make many types of applications in the Court of Queen's Bench about family law matters. These booklets set out the court procedure involved, and provide fill-in-the-blank forms that can be used for common applications. The booklets are available for download at no cost.
Great Alberta Law Cases
This dynamic resource explores Alberta's legal heritage. This interactive site presents in audio format dramatizations of 30 of Alberta's most interesting, contentious and influential legal battles and grounds them in a rich, multimedia historical context.
Heads Up Fraud Prevention Association
Heads Up is a proactive award winning anti-fraud program based out of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. The association was formed for the specific purpose of providing fraud prevention information to the public. By making the public more aware of the variety of fraudulent scams through an education process, they will be armed with sufficient information to allow them to make educated decisions prior to parting with their money. By empowering the community through the education process, we can reduce victimization and prevent these crimes from occurring.
Human Rights Education Project
If you are a teacher of secondary school students or a student in junior or senior high school in Alberta, our Human Rights Education Project is for you. For everyone else this project provides handbooks and manuals that may be of interest to you. Reality Choices (Service Alberta)
Reality Choices is from Service Alberta and is a consumer resource for young adults who are moving away from home for the first time. It consists of five modules: Dealing with Credit, You and Your Money, A Roof over Your Head, In the Driver's Seat, Shopping for Satisfaction. The modules are based on a national version of Reality Choices released earlier this year by federal, provincial and territorial consumer affairs ministers, but have been adapted to give Albertans key information about consumer protection laws in Alberta.
Victims of Crime Protocol: What victims of crime can expect from the criminal justice system
This protocol is meant to be a useful reference for people who are victims of crime. The protocol outlines what you can expect throughout the criminal justice process, from the time you report a crime through the police investigation, court proceedings and, if the accused is found guilty, provincial and federal corrections and the National Parole Board. The protocol also tells what is expected of you and what else you can do when you are in contact with the criminal justice system. PDF - 110 pages
